How You Can Help
EVENTS
Public events like Shedfest and Lantern Walk require lots of volunteer help to be a success! Choose from roles that include event setup, welcome and refreshment tables, activity helper, directing traffic and post-event breakdown.
LAND
Stewardship is always needed at our Fairview Farm Wildlife Preserve and other properties we manage. Help our staff create and maintain trails, remove invasive species, and plant native trees and shrubs. All supplies and equipment are provided.
WATER QUALITY
Become a citizen scientist! (18 +)
Stream Monitoring: Work with a small team to conduct biological and visual assessments at stream sites in our watershed. This volunteer position requires the successful completion of training in May and approximately 10-12 hour time commitment in June.
Stream Chemical Monitoring: Experienced Stream Monitors can participate in an additional 2 hour training session on YSI ProPlus meter and LaMotte kits to assess dissolved oxygen, water temperature, pH, and specific conductance, turbidity, nitrates, and phosphates.
OFFICE SUPPORT
Find your niche or do it all: Data entry, database support, Excel spreadsheets, creative services, graphics, filing, organizing, gathering supplies, mailings, and more.
BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS
We occasionally need help with small projects, including light carpentry, painting and minor repairs. Let us know if you’re interested in sharing your skills. When a project arises, we’ll contact you to see if you’re available.
OUTREACH
If you’re passionate about the environment and want to spread the word, represent RHA at our information table at community events and conferences. Share information about our mission, accomplishments and programs. Choose dates that suit your schedule and we’ll provide a training session. All materials are provided.
GROUP VOLUNTEERS
Is your company, high school, college or community group looking to make a difference? RHA will customize a meaningful experience for your team which will make a lasting impact.
Current Projects:
- Conservation: Remove invasive species, plant native trees and shrubs, assist with forest restoration, improve wildlife habitat, maintain a stream restoration area.
- Trail Maintenance and Pollinator Garden: Assist with our Bird and Butterfly Garden upkeep, weed, plant, rake, water. Or, hit the trails: clear invasive plants, cut back branches, clear downed trees.
- Special Events: Set up tents, tables and activities for a fundraising event, staff a table during the event, or be our break down team afterward.
- Stream Cleanup: Join our annual stream clean up in April or clean up an impaired stream bank in late fall.
