We are thrilled to announce that Raritan Headwaters’ Nature Days Forest School program at the Hunterdon Community Farmers Market is now more accessible than ever!  A generous grant from the Astle-Alpaugh Family Foundation has made it possible for us to offer a sliding scale for registration, ensuring that more children can experience the joys of outdoor learning.

Nature Days at the Farmers’ Market takes place every Sunday at the historic Dvoor Farm in Flemington from early May through the end of October. It is a perfect site for outdoor exploration as the 40-acre farm offers trails through a native grass meadow, a grove of old-growth trees, and Walnut Brook, a beautiful setting for nature study.

What is Nature Days?

Nature Days is an immersive, child-led exploration program where young learners engage with the natural world in a way that fosters curiosity, creativity, and confidence. Rooted in the principles of forest schooling, this program allows children to take the lead—whether they’re building fairy houses, tracking wildlife, learning about critters in small streams, or making artwork with natural materials.

The Benefits of Outdoor Learning

Spending time in nature has profound benefits for children, including:

  • Boosted Creativity & Problem-Solving: Open-ended exploration encourages kids to think critically and experiment.
  • Improved Physical & Mental Well-Being: Fresh air, movement, and unstructured play reduce stress and promote healthy development.
  • Deepened Connection to Nature: Hands-on experiences nurture environmental stewardship and a lifelong love for the outdoors.

With Nature Days now more accessible, we invite families to join us at the Hunterdon Community Farmers Market to experience the magic of outdoor learning. Let’s empower the next generation of environmental leaders—one forest adventure at a time!
