The days are getting shorter, but there’s still plenty of fun to be found in autumn’s early sunsets.
The local community is invited to join Raritan Headwaters Association (RHA) on Sunday, Nov. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., for the annual Lantern Walk at RHA’s Fairview Farm Wildlife Preserve at 2121 Larger Cross Road, Bedminster.
Revelers of all ages will celebrate the season by parading with colorful paper lanterns through Fairview Farm’s meadows and trails, while festive music plays. Guided walks will be held at 5, 5:30 and 6 p.m., and refreshments will be served.
“Lantern Walk has a magical feel to it, as children and adults light up the night with warm glow of lanterns,” said Mara Tippett, RHA’s executive director. “Lantern Walk celebration has its roots in the European harvest festival known as ‘Lanternenlaufen,’ and over the years it has become a favorite tradition for local families.”
The event raises funds to support Raritan Headwaters’ mission and programs to protect clean water in local rivers, streams and homes.
The admission fee is $25 per adult, which includes a lantern; and $15 for children, which includes a smaller lantern. General admission tickets, which don’t include lanterns, are available for $10. Music and light refreshments are included. The lantern parades will be held on grassy trails, so appropriate footwear should be worn. To register online, click here. The rain date is the following Sunday, Nov. 17.
