Safe Drinking Water Programs are an essential environmental public health service. While commercial water companies are required by law to test customers’ water, owners of private wells are on their own. Regular monitoring is critically important to ensuring a safe water supply. Whether you rely on a private well or purchase water from a public water purveyor, it is up to you to ensure that your water is lead-free as a potential source of lead contamination may be the pipes inside your home. Local efforts to provide community-supported testing programs help prevent exposure to drinking water contaminants by making the testing process convenient and affordable. Learn about establishing a testing program in your town and how to earn points toward your Sustainable Jersey certification in the process. An overview of RHA’s Community Well Testing Program and the 2 Sustainable Jersey Actions related to drinking water supply- “Private Well Outreach and Testing” and “Removing Lead in Drinking Water” are presented. This Watershed Tools for Local Leaders webinar was held on April 25, 2023 and co-sponsored by the Raritan Township Green Team.
