I joined the Raritan Headwaters Association (RHA) as an intern in February 2022 assisting with RHA’s award-winning Stream Monitoring Program. The Stream Monitoring Program has been in action for over 30+ years covering to-date over 70+ sites, in all 52 HUC-14 sub-watersheds throughout the North and South Branch Raritan River Watershed Region (WMA8) of New Jersey. I work closely with my mentor, Emily Mayer, RHA’s program manager and Watershed Scientist (Surface Water), on developing scientific outreach material, collecting data from the field, assisting on special projects such as the Headwater Sentinel Climate Stations, and learning more about the potential environmental career paths for my future.
While interning at RHA, I continue to pursue my Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science at Centenary University and will graduate in May of 2022. As a student, I’ve been an active member of local campus groups, such as Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), serve as a student-captain for the wrestling team, and have participated in other events with the student body focused on supporting the Hackettstown community. Community service is close to our hearts at Centenary University and having spent much of my time giving back to the Hackettstown community, via helping at food pantries, snow removal and other various tasks. I’m excited to contribute and be part of RHA’s mission in preservation and conservation of the environment, while gaining valuable industry experience.
